Biserica „Adormirea Maicii Domnului” – Braşov

Construită în stil baroc de către negustorul Stefan Nicola într-un singur an (1872-1873).

Starting on March 7, 1782, after Emperor Joseph II’s decree of tolerance from July 1781, Romanians from Old Brașov submitted several memoranda to the local authorities and those in Vienna, requesting approval for the construction of a religious edifice. Ștefan Nicola, a rich merchant from Șcheii Brașovului, originally from Ioannina, Greece, committed to the local authorities to bear the entire cost of the construction. As a result, a chapel (“Bothaus”) and a surrounding cemetery “near the Barracks” were approved, as there was a military unit in the area. The following year (1783) the church was also built, and from the same year the street received the name “Romanian Church Street” (until 1965, when it was renamed “Str. Operetei”, returning to the old name after 1989). Consecrated in 1785 by Bishop Ghedeon Nichitici, the church still preserves its original architecture.

Biserica „Adormirea Maicii Domnului” (Brașovul Vechi) din Brașov este înscris în Lista Monumentelor Istorice (BV-II-m-A-11336.01).
